Special Smiles Helps Special Olympics Athletes Optimize Their Oral Health

Regency Court Dentistry was selected as one of only a handful of healthcare providers to provide screenings and dental care to Special Olympics athletes.  Last month, Sue Kassoff-Correia, Registered Dental Hygienist, participated as a Healthy Athletes Volunteer at the Special Olympics World Games held on the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles.  The Healthy Athletes-Special Smiles program provided dental screenings, oral hygiene instruction, mouth guards, fluoride varnish, and oral hygiene kits to thousands of athletes, many of whom have never been to a dentist. This also included issuing preventative supplies like toothpaste and toothbrushes and fluoride varnish. Dental restorative treatment, such as root canal therapy, fillings, and crowns, as well as hygiene services were provided on site by the USC School of Dentistry, to those requiring immediate care.  The photos in the gallery are from the Opening Ceremony, held on Saturday, July 25 where the World Summer Games hosted 6,500 athletes from 167 countries.  Click here to learn more.
